برج خورشیدی شهر ریودوژانیروی برزیل
قرار است برج خورشیدی المپیک 2016 ریو در جزیره کوتوندوبا (Cotonduba Island) نزدیک سواحل ریودوژانیروی برزیل بنا شود. این برج هم یک برج دیدهبانی و هم نمادی برای خوش آمد گویی به میهمانان هوایی و دریایی المپیک 2016 ریودوژانیرو است. برج خورشیدی شهر (Solar City Tower) که توسط شرکت معماری و طراحی رافا (RAFAA Architecture And Design) واقع در زوریخ آلمان طراحی شده میبایستی در طول روز انرژی خورشید را توسط سلولهای خورشیدی بیشمار خود جذب کند تا نیروی برق مورد نیاز برای المپیک 2016 و همچنین شهر ریودوژانیرو را تامین کند. انرژی مازاد هم صرف پمپاژ کردن آب دریا به مخازن عظیم برج میشود تا در طول مدت شب این آب از بالای برج به سمت پایین جاری شود و با به حرکت درآوردن توربینهای برج نیروی برق مورد نیاز بازیهای المپیک 2016 و شهر ریودوژانیرو را در شب هنگام نیز تامین کند. در قسمت سمت دریا که حدود 105 متر ارتفاع دارد یک فروشگاه و همینطور یک کافی شاپ در پشت آبشار ساخته خواهد شد. همچنین برای آنهایی که اهل هیجان و ماجراجویی هستند یک سکوی پرش بانجی هم پیش بینی شده.

Solar City Tower for Rio Olympics 2016
This renewable energy generating tower located on the coast of Rio is one of the first buildings we've seen designed for the 2016 Rio Olympics, and boy, is it crazy! (In case you didn't notice, it's also a waterfall.) The Solar City Tower is designed by Zurich-based RAFAA Architecture & Design, and features a large solar system to generate power during the day and a pumped water storage system to generate power at night. RAFAA's goal is that a symbolic tower such as this can serve as a starting point for a global green movement and help make the 2016 Olympic Games more sustainable
This vertical structure will be placed in Cotonduba Island. It will be both a observation Tower, and a welcome sign for the visitors arriving by air and by Sea at Rio de Janeiro, where the Olympic Games 2016 will take place. The project is from Zurique, and utilizes solar energy during the day with its Solar Power panels, to pump the sea water as seen in the model. The movement of the water will be also utilized to turn the turbines And produce the power to work the system at night time. The self-sustaining tower for the 2016 Olympic Games is designed to create renewable energy for use in the Olympic Village as well as the city of Rio. A large solar power plant generates energy during the day. Any excess power not used during the day is utilized to pump seawater into a storage tank within the tower. At night, the water is released to power turbines, which will provide nighttime power for the city. On special occasions water is pumped out to create a waterfall over the edges of the building, which RAFAA says will be, "a symbol for the forces of nature." Info on the size of the solar and pumped water storage system is not available yet. Access to the eco tower is gained through an urban plaza and amphitheater 60 meters above sea level, which can be used for social gatherings. On the ocean side of the 105 meter tower (behind the waterfall) is a cafeteria and shop.
